The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) would like to brief the Applicants desirous of Recruitment to the 153 Posts of Civil Judges in Odisha Judicial Service (OJS) under Law Department (Law Deptt) as stated in the subsequent Paragraphs. Online Registration for recruitment to the Posts of Civil Judges in Odisha Judicial Service is in progress with the Deadline for Online Registration / Online Application Forms closing on the 20th of August 2016 (20.08.2016).

OPSC Civil Service Mains Expected Cut Off 2016,Result Date

The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC), Last Date for receipt of the Online Application Form Fee at any of the State Bank of India Branch is the 23rd of August 2016 (23.08.2016). Total 153 Posts include 50 Vacancies for Women.

Eligibility Criteria (As On 01.08.2016):

General Candidates should have attained Minimum 23 Years but must not exceed 35 Years of Age.   Relaxation in Upper Age Limits to the Candidates shall be in compliance with the Government of Odisha State.

Educational Qualifications:

The Candidates must have in possession Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Law awarded of the University / Institution recognized by the Central Government / State Government.


Any Candidate serving in the capacity of Superintendent / Ministerial Officer in the High Court / Civil Court / Criminal Court subordinate to the High Court of the State.


Any Candidate rendering his / her service as Assistant Law Officer / Translator in the Law Department is also Eligible for Application / Candidacy.

  • release the e-Admission Certificates / Admit Cards / Hall Examination Tickets Two Weeks prior to the commencement of the Online Preliminary Test (OPT) as well as the Main Written Examination First Alerts in regards thereto shall be published / displayed on our Website for the ready reference of the Candidates.   
  • conduct Odisha Judicial Service Examination (OJSE) 2016 consisting of

Preliminary Examination on the 4th September 2016 (04.09.2016)

Main Written Test in November 2016 exact Date for which shall be notified for the ready reference of the Candidates Shortlisted in the Preliminary Test.

Odisha OPSC Civil Judge Syllabus 2016

Stages Scheme and Marking   Expected Cut-Off Marks / Community-wise Minimum Qualifying Marks
Preliminary Examination in Single Paper Of 1½ Hours’ Duration comprises 100 Objective-Type Multiple Choice Questions carrying Equivalent Marks with 01 Mark for each Correct Answers in the Optical Mark Recognition Based Response Sheet.  There shall be deduction of 0.25% or ¼th of the Marks for every Wrong    Response in the Optical Mark Recognition Based Answer Sheet. General     Candidates:      40%

SC / ST :         35%

Main Written Examination consisting of Three Papers

Paper – I:                             General English:   150 Marks

Paper-II:                          Procedural Laws:  150 Marks

Optional Paper:  150 Marks

(i)       Law of Crime & Law of Torts: Maximum 150 Marks

(ii)     Personal Law: Maximum 150 Marks

(iii)     Law of Property: Maximum 150 Marks

(iv)   Law of Contract: Maximum 150 Marks

(v)     Jurisprudence &              Constitution of India: Maximum 150 Marks.

Paper – I:                             General English:      150 Marks

Paper-II:                          Procedural Laws:     150 Marks

Optional Paper:        150 Marks

Total                        450 Marks

Only the Candidates with 45 Per Centum Marks in Aggregate and 33% in each Paper shall be summoned for Personal Interview.
Personality Test / Personal Interview / Viva-voce.

Odisha Public Service Commission notified Personal Interview for Final Recruitment against 153 Posts shall comprise the Questions within the Main Written Test Syllabus and the Questions shall also cover Broad National and International Issues and the Matters of Common Interest in the domain of Arts and Science.

Carrying Maximum 100 Marks shall be hosted in compliance with the Odisha Superior Judicial Service & Odisha Judicial Service Rules 2007

The Candidates in order to be deemed Eligible on the Merit List shall essentially have to secure Minimum 40 Per centum Marks in Personal Interview. However, Final Selection to the Post of Civil Judges in Odisha Judicial Service shall be strictly in order of Final Merit List drawn up based on the Sufficient High Marks both in the Main Written Examination and Personal Interview.   

& Verification of the Testimonials / Documents / Certificates followed by Medical Examination.

Application / Examination Fee:

General Category Candidates:  Rs. 300/- (Rupees Three Hundred only). The Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes with the Persons with Disabilities with Minimum 40% and above remain EXEMPTED from Payment of Fee.
