Briefly furnish the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Update on the Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2016 scheduled to be conducted on the 23rd of October 2016 (23.10.2016) (Sunday).The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) shall conduct on the 23rd of October 2016 All India Competitive Examination Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2016 at different Venues located at 41 Centers throughout the country.

The Union Public Service Commission has uploaded on the Official Website the e-Admission Certificates / e‐Admit Cards for the Candidates, which may be downloaded. If any Applicant is not able to download his / her e‐Admit Card / Hall Ticket, then he / she may establish a Contact with the Union Public Service Commission Facilitation Counter over Telephone Nos. 011 ‐2338 5271, 011‐2338 1125 and 011 ‐ 2309 8543 between (10.00 AM to 05.00 PM) on the Working Days during the Official Working Hours.

The candidate may also transmit a Fax Message over Fax No. 011 ‐ 2338 7310. The candidates may note that no Paper Admit Card will be issued to them.

In case the Photograph is not printed or available on the eAdmit Card, candidates are advised to carry Three (03) Photographs (One Identical Photograph for each Session) along with a proof of identity, such as, Identity Card etc., and the Printout of the eAdmit Card / Hall Examination Certificate at the Venue of the Examination to secure admission into the Examination Hall.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) shall release within Two Three Weeks of the Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2016, the Scanned Image of the Optical Mark Recognition Based Answer Sheet / Objective Responses Key in Set A, Set B, Set C & Set D Series of the Combined Defence Services Examination (II) 2016 (CDSE – II 2016) scheduled to be conducted on the 14th of February 2016.

The UPSC shall declare the Minimum Qualifying Marks for the Course Specific to the Academy (Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) Officers Training Academy (OTA) Men and OTA (Women) commencing in January / April 2017, while announcing the Result of the Combined Defence Services Exam (I), 2016 being conducted in the Test Booklet comprising the Objective-Type Multiple Choice Questions in the format of the Optical Mark Recognition Based Written Test.

We anticipate the Union Public Service Commission to publish in the last leg of March / 2016 the Scanned Image of the Optical Mark Recognition Based Answer Sheet / Answers Key in A, B, C, D Series in Portable Document Format (PDF) File of the Combined Defence Services (II) Examination, 2016.

  • determine the Minimum Qualifying Marks scored by the candidates in the Written Part of the Objective Test being held on 23.10.2016. The Commission shall declare the Expected Cut-Off Marks while announcing the Result of the Objective Response Sheet based Combined Defence Services (II) Examination 2016.

Based on the previously determined Minimum Qualifying Marks by the Union Public Service Commission, we may make a mention that the Candidates likely to be inducted into Indian Military Academy (IMA) / India Naval Academy (INA) / Air Force Academy (AFA), Officers Training Academy (OTA) (Male / Female) should secure Minimum 33% – 45%  (33 – 45) Marks of the Total 300 Marks with the pre-condition of having Minimum 50% (50) Marks in Aggregate to be considered Eligible for appearing in the Final Examination.  However, the Candidates having obtained Minimum 20% or 20 Marks in each Test are considered Qualified for the Final Examination. The Minimum Qualifying Marks determined by the Union Public Service Commission continue varying; therefore, we would display on our URL Updates on both, Fully-solved Answers Key and the Minimum Percentage of Marks / Minimum Qualifying Marks stipulated by the Union Public Service Commission in regards to

  1. Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun 143nd Course commencing in July 2017;
  2. Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala-Course commencing in July 2017;
  3. Air Force Academy (AFA), Hyderabad (Pre-Flying) Training Course commencing in July 2017;
  4. Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, 105th SSC Course (for Men) commencing in October 2017;
  5. Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai 19th SSC Women (Non-Technical) Course commencing in October 2017.

Final Selection of the Candidates shall be based on the All India Merit List drawn up based on the Sufficient High Marks secured both in Part I consisting of the Written Test and Part II consisting of  Personality Test / Personal Interview.

Intelligence and Personality Test (IPT):

The SSB Procedure consists of a Two-Stage Selection Process – Stage I and Stage II. Only those candidates who clear the Stage-I are permitted to appear for Stage II. The details are:

  1. Stage I comprises Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Tests are Picture Perception *Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on combination of performance in QIR Test and PP and DT.
  2. Stage II comprises Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and the Conference. These tests are conducted over Four (04) days. The details of these tests are given on the Indian Army (Join Indian Army) Website.
Phase I would comprise Intelligence Test, Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT))
The Candidates declared QUALIFIED in Phase I shall be allowed to appear in Phase II.  The candidates declared NOT QUALIFIED in the Phase I would be sent back.
Phase II shall comprise Psychological Testing (PT), Group Testing and Interview (GTI).  The Test shall be held over Four (04) Days.

 

The Successful candidates shall be put to Medical Examination that would be held during 03 – 05 Days.

Selection Criteria:

The Union Public Service Commission shall conduct the Two Stages of Test for selection of the Candidates; i.e., Written Test for Admission into (a) Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and (b) Officers Training Academy as here under:

Procedure for Selection:

The Maximum Marks allotted to the Optical Mark Recognition Based Written Examination and to the Personal Interview would be Equal for each Course, i.e., the Maximum Marks apportioned to the Optical Mark Recognition Based Written Examination and to the Personal Interviews will be 300, 300, 300 and 200 each for Admission into the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) respectively.

Penalty for Wrong Answers:

There shall be Penalty for Wrong Answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers mentioned with Each Test Booklet containing the Objective-Type Multiple Choice Questions in English and Hindi Languages as here under:

  1. There are Four (04) alternatives for the answer to every Objective-Type Multiple Choice Questions printed on the Optical Markup Reader (OMR) Sheet. For each MCQs for which a wrong Answer has been given by the candidate, One-Third (0.33%) of the Mark(s) assigned to that Question would be deducted as Penalty.
  2. If a Candidate gives more than one answer, then it will be treated as a wrong answer, even if one of the given answers happens to be correct, yet there must be the same Penalty to that Multiple Choice Questions of Objective Type.
  3. If a Multiple Choice Questions is left point blank by the Candidate, i.e., no answer is given by him / her, then there shall be no penalty for that Question.
